Charles City's July 4th Celebration

Charles City's July 4th Celebration features fun for families and visitors of all ages! Live entertainment, volleyball tournaments, talent show, car shows, BBQ competition and children's activities are all part of the festivities. And of course, no July 4th celebration would be complete without a parade and fireworks!

July 3rd

10 am-Kids’ Parade Registration at the band shell in Central Park. Register for the parade and prizes
10 am-2 pm-Comet Bowl $1/game kids’ bowling specials
10:30 am-Kids’ Parade around Central Park. Register at the band shell. Prize Drawings will be held at the band shell following the kids’ parade. Sponsored by First Citizens and McDonald's

July 4th

7:30 am-Firecracker 5 Run/Walk Walk (5K) or run (5K or 5 miles) on the Charley Western Trailway. Registration forms available at the Community Development Office and online
10:30 am-Independence Day Parade-Lots of fun floats, walkers and great music. The good seats go fast, so get there early! Parade route includes Main, Riverside and Jackson Streets
11:30 am-4pm-Central Park Fun after the parade including food, drinks and family entertainment, live music featuring Endless Summer, crowning of the Fair Queen and presentation of CCHS’s Master of Fine Arts and Fine Arts Hall of Fame awards
1 pm-Bean Bag tournament sponsored by the Pubcrawlers. Call (641) 220-2508 to register
1 pm-CCHS Tennis Tournament at Sportsman’s Park. Check in at 12:30pm, play begins at 1pm
1:30 pm-4th Annual Rubber Duck River Race along the Cedar River. Fundraiser for Caring Connections mentoring program. Tickets are $5 each or a 6 quack for $25. Tickets available at local banks, Hy-Vee and Caring Connections office
6 pm-Midnight-Independence Day Celebration in Central Park featuring Sterling sound DJ
8:30 pm-Municipal Band Concert at the riverside behind the Charles City Public Library
10 pm-Fireworks shot off from the Court House parking lot

July 5th

7:15 am-Charles City Bike Ride Meet at First Security Bank parking lot. Registration starts at 7:15am, ride leaves at 8am. 26, 30 or 50 mile routs. Contact Dick Neal at 641-330-9228 or for more info. Helmets highly recommended
9am-Noon-Downtown Farmers Market
10 am-1st Annual Go Jump in the River Disc Golf Tournament Check in at Riverfront Park 8:30-9:30am; tournament begins at 10am. $10 entry fee with 100% payout
11 am-BRU-HA Golf Fundraiser register at Cedar Ridge Golf Course
2-5 pm-City-Wide Pinewood Derby in Central Park. Register at 2pm, Derby begins at 3pm. The entire Charles City area is invited to participate in this community-wide Pinewood Derby. Hosted by Charles city Cub Scout Pack 4166 and sponsored by Edward Jones, the competition is open to all ages. Utilize a previously raced vehicle, or new car kits can be purchased at local scout shops, online or at the Edward Jones office at 610 S. Grand Ave. Call (641) 330-0479 with questions
3-7 pm-Cruise, Blues and BBQ car show. This ain’t your daddy’s car show…join us in celebrating our independence by showing off your car, truck, motorcycle and/or moped
5-9 pm-Red, White & Blues and BBQ —BBQ competition, food, games, family fun and blues music by The Jimmys. The public is invited to vote for their favorite BBQ ribs during the competition. Tickets for voting are available at the Chamber Office.

July 6th

8:30 am-12:30 pm-Dad’s Belgian Waffle Breakfast all you care to eat waffles, toppings and sausages at the KC Hall. Adults $6, kids 5 and under free. Fundraiser for IC youth attending Catholic Heartwork Camp

1 pm-Bill Riley Talent Contest at the Charles Theatre. Talent contest that annually showcases the diverse abilities of Iowa’s young people. Winners could advance to the State Fair. Sign up at the Chamber, by calling 228-4234, or just stop by and enjoy the show!
